The Fusion and Industry Team
The UKAEA Fusion and Industry team comprises Dan Mistry, Deniese Willis, Janet Browning and external consultants.
As the Fusion and Industry manager, Dan Mistry is responsible for the strategic direction for the UKAEA Culham Division’s Fusion and Industry programme. Dan is also responsible for managing relationships with fusion and industry managers at fusion laboratories across Europe and the ITER team and he also represents UKAEA at various professional and Industry trade associations. With the International Tokamak Experimental Reactor (ITER) being built, Dan is focusing his effort on ensuring key industry sectors are aware of the technical / management opportunities that are available to UK industry from the fusion/ITER programme. He is working on this with key stakeholders including Government (DBERR, UKTI), the Sensors and Instrumentation KTN, Regional Development Agencies and Devolved Assemblies, and other organisations that help industry like MAS (Manufacturing Advisory Service), CBI (Confederation of British Industry) and the East of England Energy Group.
The Culham Science Centre is an increasingly popular venue for suppliers to fusion to exhibit their products to the scientists and engineers employed at the Centre working in fusion and other technologies. Deniese Willis is the team’s Events Manager responsible for managing supplier table-top exhibitions through to the annual Technology and Innovation Exhibition. She works closely with many companies though her roles as manager of the Fusion and Industry ‘Fusion Business’ electronic newsletter, website and database and UKAEA’s contribution to the Rainbow Seed Fund, Photonics Cluster and UKSPA partnership. Deniese is also responsible for encouraging technology transfer from research to industry. In this role she works with fusion scientists and industry to identify and facilitate technology transfer opportunities and management of the Technical Support Package contracts available to suitably qualified companies in the Culham Innovation Centre.
Janet Browning is the team’s Administrator and is responsible for the co-ordination of the Fusion and Industry ITER Suppliers database and website which she keeps regularly updated with the latest information on ITER and other Fusion and Industry activities. Janet is also responsible for uploading the latest ITER/fusion contracts on the secured contract pages of the website and notifying all registered companies on the ITER Suppliers database of these contract opportunities.
