Fusion For Energy has signed a contract with Oxford Technologies Ltd to receive ITER remote handling engineering support over the next four years for a budget in the range of EUR 3.5 million.
UK delegates view the ITER construction site at Cadarache
CCFE united with leading British companies to promote the UK’s capabilities for the ITER project at the ITER Business Forum in Manosque, France in December. The event showed the breadth of commercial opportunities available at ITER and was a reminder to industry to get involved or risk losing out.
CCFE is part-funding a Plasma and Fusion Industrial Officer to foster links between the York Plasma Institute and industrial and academic partners. Dr Kate Lancaster has been appointed by the University of York to work with industry in two key areas: collaborative research in plasma science for technological or bio-medical applications, and helping industry benefit from the ITER construction programme.
Culham Centre for Fusion Energy and Nuvia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support detritiation activities for ITER. The MoU, agreed with the direct interest of ITER, will align CCFE’s process and operational knowledge of detritiation systems with Nuvia’s strong process engineering and French Nuclear Licensing capability and deliver a collaborative approach to tritium-related activities for the project.
Industry excited by Culham visit and ITER involvement
Three UK companies interested by the commercial opportunities in fusion had a useful visit to Culham on 14 December. As part of regular interaction with industry, CCFE Fusion & Industry Manager Dan Mistry invited Moyola Precision Engineering, Doosan Power Systems and solicitors Eversheds for a briefing on procurement processes and upcoming work packages, followed by tours of the JET and MAST experiments.
