In March, the British Consulate in Barcelona, in conjunction with UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and UKAEA, organised a trade mission to meet the Director, Dr. Didier Gambier, and other senior staff of F4E, Europe's ITER procurement office. The main aims were to understand how F4E is planning to procure Europe’s in-kind contributions to ITER and to give a flavour of the expertise that UK companies can offer. Both aims were fully met.

Europe’s Industrial Database for ITER has been moved from EFDA’s website (www.efda.org/eidi/) to Fusion for Energy’s website (http://eidi.f4e.europa.eu/). UK companies not previously registered on this EFDA database should register NOW at F4E!

Fusion for Energy (F4E), the organisation responsible for Europe’s contributions to ITER, has announced its first procurement. The procurement is for supply of chromium-plated copper strand that forms part of the ITER superconducting magnets.

Dorset-based precision engineer and fabricator, DAHER LCN, has won a JET work package worth around 980,000 Euro to supply machining, sheet metalwork and coded welding of poloidal and toroidal conduits in Inconel and stainless steel, for assembly and fitting to a large jig supplied by EFDA and made by Morson Projects.

Remote handling company Oxford Technologies Ltd is one of the first companies to have won business with the main ITER Organisation. It has been contracted to create a guide for specification, organisation and management of the future ITER remote handling facilities. A further, recently completed, contract was for an EFDA-funded study of the remote handling requirements of the ITER neutral beam facility.
