Jacobs Engineering UK Limited wins big ITER contract
 
Jacobs Engineering UK Limited has won a contract to provide preliminary architectural and engineering services to the ITER Organisation. The 12-month contract is worth 6.5 million Euro and is the biggest contract placed so far by the ITER Organisation.

JET Neutral Beam Enhancement contract for HVR International
 

HVR resistor unit
HVR International Limited, a world leader in the manufacture of ceramic carbon, high voltage, high energy non inductive resistors, is supplying minimum current resistor units to JET as part of the Neutral Beam Enhancement (NBE) Project, via an EU Public Procurement contract worth 225,000 Euro.

ITER diagnostics update
 
In 2006, UKAEA was asked to take the lead in researching the design of the LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) Thomson scattering system for ITER. A LIDAR development cluster comprising scientists and engineers from fusion laboratories across Europe was formed.

Scientist Profile – Dr Glenn Counsell, Head of Diagnostic Group, Fusion for Energy
 
Appointed in March 2008, Dr Glenn Counsell is Head of the Diagnostic Group at Fusion for Energy, the Barcelona-based agency overseeing European contributions to ITER, which are over one third of the total. His team is responsible for coordinating European efforts on the R&D, design and procurement of around 25% of the ITER diagnostics.
