    PRINTER-FRIENDLY VERSION
National Physical Laboratory (NPL) - 4th November 2008

Steve Mason and Ray Chegwin from the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) recently exhibited at Culham to discuss the benefits that NPL’s measurement expertise can offer to industry and research institutes. “We were able to make exceptionally good contacts with many attendees (including chief engineers and senior research scientists) who were eager to hear what assistance NPL could offer in the areas of neutron spectroscopy measurements, magnetic field strength measurements (including the calibration of Hall probes, and the proposed measurement of a large, beamline magnet), and metallography (such as the preparation of small brazing samples). For one visitor to our stand who plans to develop phase diagrams for alloys used in fusion energy experiments, our exhibition provided an opportunity to find out about MTDATA, the NPL Software tool for the calculation of phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties” said Steve Mason NPL’s Knowledge Transfer Manager. “We found this to be a worthwhile and productive opportunity, with many concepts for important future work and collaborations discussed” said Steve. For further information, please contact Steve Mason on 0208 943 8740 or email steve.mason@npl.co.uk or visit www.npl.co.uk

CVI Melles Griot - 13th November 2008

CVI Exhibition
CVI Melles Griot had the pleasure of exhibiting some of its products to staff at Culham recently. It was a successful exhibition with many questions relating to the acquisition of Melles Griot into the CVI Laser Group and the newly enhanced capability and expanded product range. Over the next few months the newly combined 990 page catalogue will be published. This will incorporate all current products from both the CVI and the Melles Griot range as well as some updated product lines. This includes ranges of high damage threshold optics, stock Opto-mechanical hardware, Diode and Gas lasers and positioning. CVI Melles Griot are looking forward to establishing more fruitful relationships with Culham staff during the course of 2009. For further information please contact UK Regional Sales Manager Jim Green on jgreen@cvimellesgriot.com, or call 01223 598 523 or visit http://www.cvimellesgriot.com

Chell Instruments Exhibition - 13th November 2008

Newly expanded Chell Instruments, which now incorporates Vacuum Fabrications recently exhibited at Culham after a gap of several years. Products on view included vacuum gauges, valves, mass flow controllers, gas purifiers, calibration equipment and custom fabrications. Although only a small part of the product range, it illustrated the ability to supply complete packages to suit individual customer’s requirements. During the day several existing customers visited the exhibition to see what was new, and a steady stream of new contacts were made, which will help to raise awareness of the company’s products and services. Chell’s combination of more than 30 years experience in providing vacuum, pressure and gas flow related equipment, wide range of products and services, and willingness to provide custom solutions in a timely and cost effective manner was particularly appreciated. LEMO UK Exhibition - 27th November 2008

LEMO Exhibition
Lemo, a leading manufacturer of push-pull electrical and fibre optic connectors, once again exhibited at Culham. This exhibition gave both Culham and Lemo engineers the opportunity to discuss on a one-to-one basis any new projects and new range of items on offer. Lemo had on show a number of push pull connectors including its new hermaphroditic fibre version, plus numerous specials being offered to meet engineers' requirements. Also on display was our remote handling range, which is an IP68 stainless steel version with a special guidance system. The contacts include multipin, mixed coax and LV, HV and LV, fibre optical, LV. Lemo’s senior Sales Engineer Neil Clarke and local engineer Malcolm Leayhey said the day was most enjoyable and successful and we look forward to exhibiting in 2009. For further information please contact Malcolm Leahey on 07753821781 or email him at mleahey@lemo.com or visit Lemo's website www.lemo.co.uk

Tecan Exhibition - 27th November 2008

"Tecan, a leading manufacturer of customised precision parts and apertures, recently demonstrated its range of innovative, photolithography-based technologies at Culham. “We always welcome the opportunity to talk to engineers and designers about what our processes can offer. Exhibitions like this enable us to show that we can make metal micro-components with more exacting designs and tighter tolerances than many designers ever realised were achievable,” said Martin Cox, Tecan’s Regional Sales Manager, “as they begin to understand our processes, they also see the advantages for mass-production.” Photo Chemical Machining (PCM), or ‘photo etching’, is a subtractive process that selectively removes metal by chemical action. Using ‘soft’ tooling directly plotted from CAD on to film, PCM is an extremely precise and cost-effective process that facilitates the production of a wide range of burr and stress-free parts in virtually any metal. For even more precise manufacturing, Tecan uses advanced Photo Electro Forming techniques (sometimes also known as UV LIGA) in a class 1000 cleanroom. PEF is used to manufacture metal, epoxy and hybrid multi-level components and apertures - with sub-micron feature sizes and tolerances possible. Martec Exhibition - 4th December 2008

Martec Exhibtion
Martec Ltd once again had a very successful exhibition with many people showing an interest in their range of Hermetic connectors, feed-throughs and bespoke solutions. Clive Thrower, Martec`s Sales Manager, said "We were extremely pleased with the response that we received for our high power and ceramic solutions, some of which have already been used on JET with very encouraging comments from the end users." Alcatel Vacuum Technology - 4th December 2008

Alcatel Vacuum Technology presented their Adixen brand of vacuum equipment at a foyer exhibition at Culham recently. Complementing their maglev turbo pumps and 100% particle free dry pumps, Adixen showcased their new range of vacuum gauges together with the industry's most compact, fully functional, all dry helium leak detector. "The informal foyer location provided a relaxed setting in which to present and discuss our latest developments in dry pumping technology and portable leak detection. We saw many new people as well as a few familiar faces" said Alcatel's Sales Manager, Terry Whitmore. For further information, contact Richard Frost at Adixen; Tel. 01506 418000, email: info@adixen.co.uk or visit www.adixen.co.uk
