After studying nuclear engineering at the University of Bologna, Carlo worked at ENEA’s Brasimone Research Centre near Florence for 13 years, starting as an experimental engineer on small scale lab-tests and eventually becoming Project Leader for the ITER Divertor Remote Maintenance R&D project. This project entailed the conception, design, industrial procurement, site adaptation, installation and test campaign.
In 2000, Carlo took on a managerial position in EFDA-JET’s Close Support Unit at Culham, UK, on secondment from ENEA. There he was Head of the Enhancement Department. He was the project manager of the Enhancement Programme (several tens of projects), with a series of international collaborations within Europe and with the US.
From 2004 to 2006, Carlo was seconded to the W7-X stellarator project at IPP Greifswald in Germany, as Head of System Integration Department. This involved dealing with the integration of design, Finite Element analyses, R&D, manufacturing and assembly activities for the W7-X magnet system structure.
In August 2006, again seconded from ENEA, Carlo moved to EFDA Garching in Germany, in the Vessel-In Vessel field, Remote Handling group, dealing in particular with the ITER Neutral Beam system Remote Handling, the In-Vessel Viewing System, and EFDA EU Remote Handling planning for ITER. Carlo moved to Fusion For Energy in Barcelona in December 2007. |
