Industry’s friend in the north

CCFE is part-funding a Plasma and Fusion Industrial Officer to foster links between the York Plasma Institute and industrial and academic partners. Dr Kate Lancaster has been appointed by the University of York to work with industry in two key areas: collaborative research in plasma science for technological or bio-medical applications, and helping industry benefit from the ITER construction programme.

CCFE and Nuvia sign Memorandum of Understanding

Culham Centre for Fusion Energy and Nuvia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support detritiation activities for ITER. The MoU, agreed with the direct interest of ITER, will align CCFE’s process and operational knowledge of detritiation systems with Nuvia’s strong process engineering and French Nuclear Licensing capability and deliver a collaborative approach to tritium-related activities for the project.

‘We’re ready to help build ITER’ says UK industry

CCFE united with leading British companies to promote the UK’s capabilities for the ITER project at the ITER Business Forum in Manosque, France last month. The event showed the breadth of commercial opportunities available at ITER and was a reminder to industry to get involved or risk losing out.

Sign up for the ITER Business Forum, December 7-8

Registrations are open for the ITER Business Forum 2011 at Manosque, France and companies are advised to sign up as soon as possible. The event on December 7-8 will provide European industry with latest information on ITER progress and forthcoming tenders. It will also be a great chance to increase mutual knowledge between the ITER project and industrialists, and to facilitate industrial partnerships within and outside Europe.

Howden UK design contract for Fusion For Energy

Current tenders include: support of modular design of ITER tritium plant systems; manufacturing of the radial plates for the ITER TF coils; provision of risk assessment and risk management support to F4E; manufacture and supply of a centre tube for the MAST vacuum vessel; and a divertor power conversion system for MAST Upgrade.

Getting IT right

A meeting at Culham on 25 October put IT companies in the picture for ITER’s CODAC (Control, Data Access and Communication) procurement. With the launch of F4E’s CODAC tender due shortly, around 25 representatives from UK companies attended to gain a better understanding of ITER’s requirements and see the CODAC facilities at CCFE.
